In this study, we investigated anti-inflammatory effects and influence on fibroblast growth of astaxanthin-loaded hydroxypropyl- ¥â-cyclodextrin nanoparticles (Ast-CD NPs). Astaxanthin was included into the cavity of hydroxypropyl-¥â-cyclodextrin. Ast-CD NPs have spherical shape and were stable in aqueous solution for 28 days without mean diameter changes and precipitation. Ast-CD NPs inhibited nitric oxide and prostaglandin E2 production induced by lipopolysaccharide in RAW264.7 cells in a concentration-dependent manner. From NIH 3T3 fibroblasts closed scratch assay, the scratch distance was narrowed significantly according to the concentration of Ast-CD NPs. These results indicate that Ast-CD NPs may be helpful for biomedical applications such as drug delivery, wound healing, and cosmetics.
